Three months after her police-involved homicide, which occurred during the service of a controversial “no-knock” search warrant, Breonna Taylor (pictured) has a new municipal ordinance named in her honor.
The passage of the new ordinance (also known as Breonna’s Law) was praised by Benjamin Crump, a well-known civil rights attorney who has been legally representing Taylor’s family.
According to the Courier-Journal, Rand Paul, a member of the U.S. Senate who represents Kentucky has filed a bill he calls the “Justice for Breonna Taylor Act.”
“After talking with Breonna Taylor’s family, I’ve come to the conclusion that it’s long past time to get rid of no-knock warrants.
A civil wrongful death lawsuit has also been filed on behalf of Taylor’s family, which names several officers from Louisville’s police department as defendants.
