Angola: Sagrada Esperança to Play in Confederation Cup

Luanda — Sagrada Esperança is the second Angolan representative appointed to dispute the African Confederation Cup in Football, benefiting from Interclube's withdrawal, already communicated by a letter addressed to the Technical Sports Council, allegedly for financial reasons.

According to a statement from the Angolan Football Federation (FAF), the withdrawal of Interclube left Sagrada Esperança without competitors for the draw that should indicate the team to represent the country in the second largest continental competition of clubs.

In the current season, Sagrada Esperança reached the semi-finals in the Angola League Cup and was one step away from the final, in case of victory or draw against Interclube, in the second leg of the semi-finals, after winning 3-1 in the first leg.

The national champions in 2005 and the Angola Cup (1988 and 1999) have already participated in the Confederation Cup on three occasions, in 1992 (eliminated in the second phase), 1998 (first phase) and 2016 (quarter-finals).

On the date of the definitive interruption of the first division National Football Championship (Girabola2019/2020), Petro de Luanda occupied the first position and 1º de Agosto were second.
