TULSA –A back-to-school event will be held from 10 a.m. until noon on Saturdays, Aug. 22, and Aug. 29, on the parking lot of the Pine Premier Child Care Center, 518 E. Pine St. School supplies will be given away during the drive-through event sponsored by the North Tulsa Economic Development Initiative. This will be the 16th annual back-to-school event sponsored by the initiative. The event is also sponsored by the George Kaiser Family Foundation, the Tulsa Public School District, the Lobeck Taylor Family Foundation and Leon Rollerson Productions. “This North Tulsa tradition may look a little different this year, but it’s still a great opportunity for parents, teachers and the community to become engaged in the education of our children,” said dr. Lana Turner Addison, president of the initiative. “We look forward to helping our students and families prepare for the 2020-21 school year, as many will start the year with virtual or distance learning.” In addition to providing traditional school supplies, like spiral notebooks and pencils,  items  this year will  include face-masks and headphones. “We recognize that students may be working from home in environments that may not always be conducive to learning,” Dr. Addison added.   “Headphones will help limit the distractions if they have siblings or other family members at home while they are engaged in school.” Parents are being urged to call ahead at (918) 534-6884 and reserve back-to-school supplies for their children. Individuals or organizations wanting to contribute sponsorships may e-mail turner_ntedi@aol.com or call  (918) 534-6884 for sponsorship information.
