Jackie graduated from James A. Herod high school where she played flute in the school band. She attended the University of Utah, Salt Lake City, and the University of Washington, Seattle. She later worked at UW’s Graduate School of Social Work, Admissions Office, where she met her husband-to-be Clyde Merriwether.
