California Rep Maxine Waters' sister died from coronavirus at a Missouri nursing home where staffers have staged protests against poor conditions.

Velma Moody, 86, succumbed to the virus at Grand Manor Nursing Home in St Louis on May 1.

'I'm going to take a moment to dedicate this legislation to my dear sister who is dying in a hospital in St. Louis, Missouri right now, infected by the coronavirus,' Waters said.

'The nursing home is the only place we have for many of our seniors, many of whom have outlived their families,' Waters told the outlet.

Herring then tested positive for coronavirus in early April, but did not show any virus symptoms until 11 days later.
