The Opposition Progressive National Party (PNP) in the Turks and Caicos Islands (TCI) has urged the Government there to hastily convene a high-level conference of stakeholders to craft a plan for speedy reopening of the economy, hopefully by the beginning of June.
He prodded the Government to provide “a road map” to the private sector “with the information to make informed decisions about staffing and the preparation needed for reopening their businesses”.
The PNP leader acknowledged that from a health and safety standpoint the TCI had fared relatively well from the early lockdown, but suggested it was time to reopen the borders in an organised and safe way.
The steps that the private sector will take and is taking to protect their businesses are inextricably bound to the decisions that Government makes to protect the health of residents.
I believe that it is vitally important that a road map is available to the private sector and the country as to what is the Government's intention in regards to the opening of the borders, the protocols, and safety measures that will be imposed.
