Trinidad and Tobago U17s strike late to dismiss Jamaica - Trinidad and Tobago Newsday

Trinidad and Tobago Under-17 bowlers Aneal Rooplal and Brendan Boodoo combined late on Saturday to bowl out Jamaica on day one in round two of the Cricket West Indies Rising Stars Under-17 two-day tournament, at PowerGen Ground, Penal.

Jamaica were 171/6, before losing four wickets for eight runs and were dismissed for 179.

Rooplal was the best bowler for TT finishing with 4/56 in 27 overs and Boodoo, more known for his batting, picked up 2/9 in eight overs. TT did not have time to start their first innings as play ended.

Jamaica openers Kev'Aundre Virgo and Tyriek Bryan put on more than 50 for the first wicket, coping with the pace of Alexander Chase and Aaidan Racha early on. However, Virgo (24), Bryan (25) and the dangerous Brian Barnes (five) fell in quick succession. The TT players would have been glad to see the back of Barnes as he scored a century in round one against Guyana.

David Dewar struck 41 off 81 balls as he tried to keep the middle order together. His innings, along with 25 not out from Aan Ennis guided Jamaica to their total.

At Inshan Ali Park in Preysal, the Leeward Islands batsmen continued to struggle as they were dismissed for just 88 by Barbados. Jatario Prescod and Shaquan Belle grabbed four wickets apiece. Barbados closed day one on 163/8 in their first innings, a lead of 75 runs.

All three matches will continue on Sunday at 10 am.
