Local economists agree that during times of recession the rich hold on to as many cash cows as they can and don’t go out splurging or spending all of their stimulus check (hint, hint).

For example, many cite the reason why luxury stores are also suffering during this time—the rich hold on to their money in order to be cash-heavy coming out of the recession then they can buy a lot more when prices are low.

With that said, here are some of the stocks many recommend (U.S. News, Forbes, Fortune, etc) buying to build up your portfolio and not just survive during a recession or pandemic, but thrive.

That year, Hershey reported sales of $5.13 billion, 3.8% higher than in 2007.

During the first month of the pandemic, alcohol sales were up 55% compared to the same period a year earlier.

A suspect has been arrested for allegedly stabbing a police captain in Mbuzini village on Saturday, Limpopo SAPS spokesperson Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo has said.

The suspect was eventually arrested around 22:00, according to Mojapelo.

Mojapelo had been in Mbuzini village with a reservist constable attending to a complaint of domestic violence when the suspect allegedly stabbed him and fled the scene.

\"The relentless members seeking justice for one of their own, who is about to retire from the police service on pension next week - Tuesday 30 June 2020 - and also decisively dealing with the scourge of gender-based violence, did not rest until the suspect was located hiding in house at the said village,\" said Mojapelo.

Acting provincial police commissioner Major General Jan Scheepers commended the officers for the swift arrest of the suspect and thanked the community for assisting the police with information.

At the briefing with neighbourhood watch members in Khayelitsha, the Western Cape Department of Community Safety communicated the roll-out of the neighbourhood watch programme in response to the pandemic and committed to support neighbourhood watches operating in Covid-19 hotspots.

In a statement released on 1 June, Western Cape Community Safetey MEC Albert Fritz confirmed neighbourhood watches were able to operate under Level 3 of the national lockdown.

In targeted Covid-19 hotspot areas, the department will support neighbourhood watch activities such as encouraging and promoting social distancing at places where people congregate, including shopping centres, schools, Sassa pay points and other spots identified by the community.

The department will support each qualifying accredited neighbourhood watch with a maximum amount of R12 000 per month, subject to compliance,\" said Fritz.

“The National Executive Council of the Wiper Democratic Movement-Kenya, meeting under the leadership of the Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka, has today authorised Mr Musyoka to seal a cooperation agreement with Jubilee and Kanu with immediate effect,” the party said in a statement.

National Assembly Deputy Minority Leader Robert Mbui, a close ally of Mr Musyoka, said party members who are not ready to work with the government will not be entertained.

In the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), sources revealed that talks between President Kenyatta and Mr Odinga on the composition of a national unity government have largely been successful.

On sugarcane farming, the source said President Kenyatta told Mr Odinga that the Cabinet had adopted a proposal that the struggling public millers in the region be leased instead of going the privatisation route.

In an interview with the Sunday Nation, Mr Ruto said the engagement of his party with Jubilee is not about sharing positions but addressing the socio-economic issues affecting the country for the benefit of all.

In a statement last night, the Permanent Secretary for Presidential Communications in the Office of the President and Cabinet, Mr Regis Chikowore confirmed the dismissal saying: \"The Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet, Dr MJM Sibanda, has announced the termination of employment by His Excellency the President, Cde ED Mnangagwa, of Dr Energy Mutodi as Deputy Minister of Government in the Ministry of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services.\"

However, Foreign Affairs and International Trade Minister Dr Sibusiso Moyo recently issued a statement distancing Government from remarks purportedly made by Dr Mutodi on measures taken by Tanzania to contain Covid-19.

Dr Moyo said the Government of Zimbabwe fully respected the sovereign measures that were adopted by President John Magufuli to contain the spread of Covid-19 in Tanzania.

The Government of Zimbabwe fully respects the sovereign measures that the President of United Republic of Tanzania His Excellency John Magufuli adopted to contain the spread of Covid-19 in his country,\" Dr Moyo said.

The Gauteng High Court in Pretoria has granted an order dissolving the current Mamelodi Amalgamated Taxi Association (Mata) executive committee, following a spate of violence, unrest and instability in the township, according to the Gauteng Department of Roads and Transport.

In a statement, the department said Gauteng's MEC for Public Transport and Roads Infrastructure, Jacob Mamabolo, launched an urgent application with the court after the violence had claimed the lives of at least 19 people.

Instead, he launched the urgent application and, following the order of the court, Mamabolo appointed Hettie Groenewald as the administrator of the taxi association with immediate effect.

Mamabolo hailed the high court decision as a victory towards the restoration of order and the quelling of taxi violence in the Mamelodi area, and in Gauteng.

\"Our intervention ultimately aims at restoring order, ensuring that Mata members are allowed to appoint an executive committee, and to operate in terms of their constitution, instead of operating through the barrel of a gun,\" remarked Mamabolo.

ALL 14 regions of the country will on Monday migrate to stage 3 of the lockdown exit strategy for the next 28 days - except for Walvis Bay, which will go back to stage 1 until 8 June.

Case number 21 is a truck driver (43) who had allegedly contravened quarantine regulations and visited various businesses.

Health minister Kalumbi Shangula said Walvis Bay is a major destination for travellers from high-risk countries.

He said stage 1 regulations will include the closure of schools and higher education institutions, the prohibition of public gatherings of more than 10 people, the banning of travelling without a permit as well as the sale of alcohol, and the restriction of movement.

Shangula said stage 3 involves the relaxation of some regulations, such as gatherings of not more than 50 people being allowed.
