Nationwide protests have taken place since October 7 despite the disbanding of the controversial Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) police unit.
The demonstrators have been accused of attacking police stations and personnel.
The rallies which are mostly attended by young people have become avenues to vent against corruption and unemployment.
Rights groups say at least 15 people have been killed the demonstrations began in early October.
DeAndre Rogers' hanging death in Grand Junction, Colorado, was ruled a suicide even though the incident was reportedly never fully investigated by police.

by KEVIN MAPASURE ZIMBABWE national cricket team captain Chamu Chibhabha is confident of upsetting Pakistan in their limited overs series this month. Chibhabha and his team departed Harare yesterday ahead of the tour that features three T-20 Internationals and as many One Day Internationals (ODI). The last time Zimbabwe toured Pakistan they were whitewashed in both versions of limited overs, but they did manage to put up some competition. Chibhabha is one of the six players that made the historic 2015 tour and are in the squad that left for Pakistan yesterday. The ODI series is particularly important as it carries points in the Super League where top seven teams will get automatic qualification to the 2023 World |Cup. Zimbabwe failed to make it to the 2015 edition. Chibhabha acknowledged Pakistan’s favourites tag but said that he was confident of leading the team to victories. “We have played Pakistan before and we have beaten them before. We believe we can play well and compete and considering that the matches are part of the Super League, every match that we play is going to be very important,” Chibhabha said. “The more matches we win, the better our chances of qualifying for the World Cup, so it’s very important for us that we do well.” He said the players were excited to finally get back to international cricket following a lengthy COVID-19-induced lay off. Several home and away tours were cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic. “The guys are really excited to go to Pakistan. The wait is over. In a couple of days’ time we will hit the ground running. We have had a couple of weeks of training, we have played a couple of games, you know. The Premier League is on, so guys played some matches and they are good and ready.” Pakistan have been active following their tour of England and will be better prepared for the Zimbabwe visit, but their guests are happy with the practice they have had over the last few weeks. “They (Pakistan) have managed to play some matches while we have just been sitting at home, but I feel we are well-prepared. We have had a good chance to prepare, we have had some good match practice, the Premier League has helped a lot.” The Chevrons are happy with the return of Blessing Muzarabani following a stint in England. “Muzarabani is a quality bowler and having him in the team is a blessing, for it's always tough facing somebody that tall. I hope he is going to be leading the bowling attack.” Chibhabha suffered the heartbreak of falling on 99 in one of the ODIs in 2015 and he hopes this time around he can find that sort of form again. “I can only hope that I can find some form like I did in 2015. I hope that when I get to Pakistan', I can pick up from where I left. I was dismissed on 99 the last time we were in Pakistan. I have to prepare myself well and try and get that form.” Former skipper Elton Chigumbura is one of the players that toured Pakistan the last time and is in the squad for this one. He too enjoyed some fine form with the bat scoring a half tone in the first T-20 before hitting a c
Authorities declared a 24-hour curfew in Nigeria's economic hub Lagos as violence flared in widespread protests that have rocked cities across the country.
Observers from the African Union and the Economic Comunity of West African States (ECOWAS) have said Guinea was conducted transparently, despite opposition claims of irregularities.
On Monday, opposition leader Cellou Diallo declared himself winner, saying his own tally gave him a first-round victory over president Alpha Conde.
Diallo’s claim was swiftly rejected by the electoral commission, which called it “premature” and “void”.
Addressing journalists in the capital, Conakry, Augustin Matata Ponyo, the AU’s head of mission in Guinea, said on Tuesday the ballot was held “in transparency”.
\"The elections were held in a transparent, secure, calm and peaceful environment, once again demonstrating the maturity of the Guinean people and political actors\", he asserted.
Tension is building in the country ahead of the release of official results. Diallo's supporters have held celebrations in the capital.
Francis Behanzin, ECOWAS' Peace and Security commissioner urged candidates \"to resort to legal avenues\" if they are aggrieved.
By BEN FINLEY Associated Press NORFOLK, Va. (AP) — With the coronavirus lockdown and school out for the summer, 9-year-old Maya Gebler's social world had shrunk to her immediate family and a few friends. When her human pen pals stopped writing, she turned to the fairies who had taken up residence at a tree in her Virginia neighborhood. And the fairies wrote back. 'They care about you,' she said. 'And they want to write to you.' Beneath a crape myrtle at the edge of a lawn in Norfolk lies a fairy village. A sign on a small wooden door shaped […]

BY JAIROS SAUNYAMA The Food and Agricultural Organisation (FAO) has hailed government for adopting the Pfumvudza agricultural concept saying it would go a long way in ensuring food security at household level. Pfumvudza is a government agricultural programme that relies on conservation methods. Speaking during a virtual meeting in commemoration of the World Food Day held on Friday, assistant FAO programming officer David Mfote said his organisation was excited to collaborate with government in promoting the latest agricultural concept. “Through the livelihoods food security programme we are collaborating with the Lands, Agriculture, Water and Rural Resettlement ministry to promote the Pfumvudza concept and we are quite excited because the ministry has taken it to an upper scale, which is a climate smart conservation and agricultural technique that aims to improve household food security through ensuring cereal adequacy for the whole year,” Mfote said. In a bid to alleviate hunger, government has unveiled the Pfumvudza agricultural concepts that are meant to ensure food provision at household level. The concept involves traditional farming methods that are meant to curb climate change effects at the same time improving yields mainly in the rural areas. The concept has been widely received by communal farmers with government complementing with agricultural inputs as well as expertise. The World Food Programme (WFP) estimates that about 7,7 million people in the country will be food insecure by year end. In her speech on the same day, WFP country director Francesca Erdelmann said there was need to consider technology and innovation in the agricultural sector to improve yields. “Given the intensity of food insecurity in Zimbabwe, anticipatory action is critical. New tools such as forecast-based financing and climate risk insurance have an important role in building robust and stable food systems in Zimbabwe.” Erdelmann added: “For example, under the Africa risk capacity initiative, a recent drought payout of US$290 000 will support selected communities during the forthcoming lean season. We can benefit from joining such regional and global efforts. “Further, the use of digital technology offers opportunities to communicate climate information and suitable farming advice to and between farmers, share market prices for better business decisions, and offer online learning tools for self-learning and enhancing skills and capacities.” The World Food Day is commemorated across over 150 countries with this year’s theme being Grow, Nourish, Sustain, Together. Our Actions are Our Future.

[The Conversation Africa] A number of African countries have recently been contesting decisions by credit rating agencies. Some have raised objections that the rating agencies lack understanding of their economic environment. Others have challenged the correctness of their ratings on the basis that the agencies had not discussed them with the country's representatives.
President Trump wants to paper over the living wound of racism. He’s issued Executive Orders and established a new national commission designed to whitewash our history—and deny the daily reality of being Black in America. He actively appeals to white supremacists and fans the flames of hatred and division in our country, because he thinks it benefits him politically. He ignores the most basic job of every president: the duty to care for all of us, not just those who voted for him.
Republican U.S. Sen. David Perdue thought he was doing something special when he mocked Sen. Kamala Harris's name during a Trump rally in Macon, Georgia, last Friday. Instead, he sparked […]

Kagbayi prison is used to hold errant army soldiers and militiamen captured in fighting, including some from the ADF.
