The two leaders of the main political opposition movements in Chad, Succès Masra and Max Loalngar have gone into hiding for their safety, three weeks after a bloody demonstration by their movements.
Nationwide protests have taken place since October 7 despite the disbanding of the controversial Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) police unit.
The demonstrators have been accused of attacking police stations and personnel.
The rallies which are mostly attended by young people have become avenues to vent against corruption and unemployment.
Rights groups say at least 15 people have been killed the demonstrations began in early October.

Guarded by a heavy police presence, Ivory Coast's electoral commission has started to announce the preliminary result of the presidential vote.
With 2 of the four candidates boycotting, incumbent President Allassane Ouattara is expected to win, especially in the north of the country.
The area is known for being a stronghold of the president.
According to the first results, President Ouattara obtained 98% of the votes in Korhogo the northern capital, with an 88% participation.
Ouattara's opponents keep claiming his bid for a third term was unconstitutional, and say the vote which, according to them, is an attempt at a \"coup d'etat\", was a failure.
Through FPI's leader Pascal Affi N'Guessan, opposition leaders called for a civil transition on Sunday, and once more stated they no longer recognized Alassane Ouattara as the Ivory Coast's president.
The RHDP ruling party has meanwhile \"warned\" the opposition \"against any attempt at destabilization\".

WARRIORS gaffer Zdravko “Loga” Logarusic has defended the inclusion of Ovidy Karuru (pictured) in his 24-man provisional Warriors squad for the back-to-back Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against the reigning champions Algeria in a week’s time. BY TERRY MADYAUTA Karuru is currently unattached after he parted ways with South Africa’s DStv premiership side Stellenbosch under unclear circumstances, but Logarusic is optimistic the midfielder will add more impetus to his arsenal amid question marks over his inclusion. Addressing a Press conference in Harare yesterday, Logarusic said Karuru’s previous exploits for the Warriors helped him earn a spot in the provisional squad, admitting that he was charmed by his commitment. “When we made the squad, we did not know where Ovidy was and we made the squad not knowing whether they were changing clubs or not. I spoke to him and he showed commitment, saying that he was working. He also told me that he was not injured,” Loga said. “When I talked to my assistants, they told me he was one of the best players when the Warriors played against Botswana and Zambia. That means he didn’t disappoint when he played for the country last time. “For the moment if Ovidy does not have a club, I think that’s part of this sport and in the future he will still be part of this sport. Those in South Africa have only played two games that means if he did not play the last two games we should not chase him away especially considering that he impressed in the previous games. He should be part of this squad because eventually, we will have 23 players to travel. We know our 15 players, but the other seven, we have to think about the future. “We have King Nadolo there because we also have the Chan [African Nations Championship] and those boys should be comfortable to avoid them relaxing. We must give them a chance.” Assistant coach Llyod Chitembwe also stood by their decision affirming that Karuru will help the squad grind a positive result. “The whole idea on Ovidy is that we are trying to come up with a team that is good enough to give us what we can expect, a team that is good enough to represent the country,” said Chitembwe. “I think all these years, Ovidy has played an important part within the set-up and one thing which is undisputed is that he is a quality player. He proved against Botswana when we played them at the National Sports Stadium. He equally proved this when we played away to Zambia. “The point here is that he is unattached, he is neither here nor there, the South African league is still in its infancy and they have just played two games. I am sure he deserves a chance, let’s give the coach a chance to assess the player’s fitness. I am sure he has the intelligence to play and give us what we want.” While Karuru’s inclusion has been questioned, perhaps the other selection question mark is the inclusion of Tendai Darikwa who has not been having game time at his England Championship side Nottingham forest. Darikwa was injured just before the 2019-2020 season started and has been on the side

International Man: The hysteria surrounding COVID-19 and the government lockdown has completely changed in-person interactions. How do you think this will impact the way that Americans cast their vote in the presidential election? Doug Casey: It’s a very bad thing from Trump’s point of view. For one thing, it’s severely limiting the number and size of his rallies, which he relies on to keep enthusiasm up. More people are staying at home and watching television than ever before. And unless they glue their dial to Fox, they’ll gravitate towards the mainstream media, which is stridently anti-Trump. People who are on … Continue reading →

TENSIONS ran high at the Zanu PF Manicaland provincial co-ordination committee (PCC) meeting yesterday over failure by party bigwigs to announce names of candidates that had successfully submitted their curriculum vitaes to contest in the district co-ordination committee (DCC) elections. BY KENNETH NYANGANI Some members wanted the names to be released at the meeting to avoid rigging. The meeting, which was held at Marymount Teachers College in Mutare, was attended by several senior party officials who included Defence minister Oppah Muchinguri, Information minister Monica Mutsvangwa, Primary and Secondary Education minister Cain Mathema, who was the guest of honour, Manicaland Provincial Affairs minister Ellen Gwaradzimba and former Finance minister and Zanu PF acting spokesperson Patrick Chinamasa. The Zanu PF DCC elections are set to be held in a few weeks’ time around the country. A disgruntled Zanu PF member, who refused to be named, told NewsDay that they were expecting names of successful DCC candidates to be announced during the PCC meeting for the sake of transparency. “Why are they not unveiling the names? What was the motive of them coming to this meeting?” he said. Another member, who is eyeing a PCC position in Makoni district, weighed in, saying: “I think the best thing was to announce the names of successful candidates during the meeting as we fear the process might be rigged.” However, Zanu PF Manicaland provincial chairperson Mike Madiro, in his closing remarks, said the candidates will be announced through co-ordinators in the various districts. “Our leaders instructed that candidates contesting for DCC should not come to the PCC meeting,” Madiro said. In his speech, Mathema said the DCC elections should strengthen the ruling Zanu PF party. He also encouraged the candidates to desist from vote-buying. “The DCC elections should not be a reason to divide us, let’s walk as a united party. We don’t want vote-buying, we don’t want imposition of candidates. The elections should strengthen us than divide us and must also boost our party constitutionalism,” Mathema said.

Voters cast their ballots in Ivory Coast's heated presidential election on Saturday and now they wait eagerly to see who will be the next leader of one Africa's fastest-growing economies.
The vote is seen as a test of stability as two opposition candidates called for a boycott and civil disobedience, calling the vote a \"failure\" of power.
President Alassane Ouattara is running for a contested third term, which the opposition says is \"unconstitutional\".
The president's move sparked deadly pre-election clashes, killing around 30 people, reinvoking the memories of the 2010 presidential vote, which unleashed a brief civil war that saw over 3,000 deaths.
Despite the call for a boycott, Ouattara's ruling Rally of Houphouëtists for Democracy and Peace party said the vote was a success.
\"October 31 was not the day of the flood as predicted by all the opposition leaders, but better, Ivorians have appropriated this election by going to vote massively this morning,\" said Adama Bictogo, executive director of ruling RHDP.
Reports of violence
Saturday's vote was largely calm and there have been no official reports of deadly clashes.
But opposition leader and presidential hopeful Pascal Affi N'Guessan said 12 were killed.
\" We deplore, yet another time, deaths where there have been clashes, a dozen deaths for the moment, including four in Goh and two in the sub-prefecture of Niablé,\" N'Guessan said.
Police dispersed protests that broke out in Abidjan and other towns and fired tear gas, according to an AFP reporter.
The ruling party said there were \"attacks\" by \"violent elements organized by the opposition\"
