Mzimba-based Kavitowo Primary School teacher Steven Mkwinika has ruled out the possibility of returning to TNM Super League outfit Mzuzu City Hammers after the club asked him to rescind his resignation decision.
Mkwinika resigned immediately after Hammers suffered a 4-0 defeat to Civil Service United at Civo Stadium in Lilongwe on Saturday to bow out of the Airtel Top 8 Cup.
Hammers General Secretary Benjamin Thole said they had approached the Caf B Coaching Licence holder to consider returning to the side but Mkwinika declined due to what he termed as other commitments.
Mkwinika said he was finding it difficult to balance work [at school] and club duties as he operates from Mzuzu to Mzimba.
“It is becoming difficult to work as a coach for the Hammers while staying here in Mzimba—unless there are some arrangements because I found myself in a bad scenario where I was not putting much effort at work.
“So, I thought it wise to concentrate on teaching at Kavitwo and I am sure I will be available to elite clubs in future,” Mkwinika said.
But Thole said the club would issue a statement soon regarding its next move.
“We are still engaging our coach despite resigning and, for sure, we need to move forward. So, yes, we will take a step on that as the season is still in progress,” Thole said.
Last week, Dedza Dynamos fired Coach Andrew Bunya and they have roped in former Mighty Wanderers mentor Alex Ngwira.
