Love in the time of quarantine must be interesting. Couples can't see each other even though they're in the same city. Interactions are limited to small screens, only enough to hear their voices and talk about their days. People can't touch their partners and spend time with them in real life. In addition to this, …

Uber Technologies said on Wednesday trip requests were gradually picking up, but still remained significantly below prior year levels, as several countries start to lift coronavirus-led restrictions.
Trip requests are now down about 70% from a year earlier, slightly lesser than April’s 80% drop, CEO Dara Khosrowshahi said in a conference with Bank of America analysts.
He said the company’s rides business is improving on a week-over-week basis, adding that the surge in food-delivery orders at Uber Eats recorded in the first quarter, showed no signs of slowing in May, easing concerns of investors who thought it could be a one-off trend during the pandemic.
Ridership in Hong Kong, which has been one of the most successful cities in the world at containing the novel coronavirus outbreak, has recovered more than 80% from its coronavirus-driven lows, Khosrowshahi said.
Rival Lyft also signalled a rebound in ridership on Tuesday, saying rides on its platform rose 26% in May from the previous month.

By JOSEPH PISANI AP Retail Writer NEW YORK (AP) — Macy's said Santa Claus won't be greeting kids at its flagship New York store this year due to the coronavirus, interrupting a holiday tradition started nearly 160 years ago. More than a quarter of a million people come to see Santa at Macy's in New York each year, the company said, making it hard to create a safe environment during a pandemic. Before taking a picture with the jolly old man, crowds walk in tight quarters through a maze-like Santaland that's filled with Christmas trees, running toy trains and elves […]

Sexual abuse among children as young as two years old has increased due to the COVID-19 lockdown, noted a Clarendon medical practitioner, who labelled some of the cases as “very vicious”.
“Because of COVID-19, the children are at home longer with the perpetrator,” he charged, noting that the hospital has been working with the police to investigate the cases.
Edwards’ concerns followed local and international reports about an increase in child abuse as well as the number of children who have gone missing during the COVID-19 pandemic.
In May, Osbourne Bailey, head of the Ministry of Justice’s Victim Services Division, noted that the number of sex crimes against children was rivalling those committed against adults in that month.
It is somebody in the home, somebody related to the child,” Bailey stated then, sparking backlash from the Child Protection and Family Services Agency (CPFSA), which claimed that the numbers did not reflect in its statistics.
A CONTINUING dry spell in St Ann has manifested in a massive increase in bush fires for the month of April 2020 compared to the similar period the previous year.
The Jamaica Fire Brigade’s report for April, tabled at this month’s meeting of the St Ann Municipal Corporation, showed that for April 2020, there were 133 bush fires compared to 35 in April 2019, a massive increase of 280 per cent.
And it appears that bush fires are still raging as since the start of May, The Gleaner has received several reports of bush fires in St Ann.
Andrew Wildman, senior deputy superintendent, who until recently acted as officer in charge of St Ann and whose report was tabled at the meeting, told The Gleaner on Tuesday that bush fires are usually the result of human behaviour.
Further, fires must not be lit between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m.
Meanwhile, buoyed by the increase in bush fires, genuine fire calls for April 2020 stood at 152, compared to 67 for the corresponding period in 2019, an increase of 127 per cent.
The parking lot of a Montgomery County community center was filled Saturday with boxes of groceries and volunteers as Rev. Matthew L. Watley and members of Kingdom Fellowship African Methodist Episcopal Church distributed food to people in need amid the coronavirus pandemic.
Such distributions to the community are nothing new for Watley and his Silver Spring congregation, but many who took bags of groceries at Saturday's event only recently fell on hard times, having lost jobs because their places of employment had closed to help slow the spread of the coronavirus.
\"We have giving out 700 boxes of food and the need is growing,\" said Watley, whose church is one of many houses of faith and charitable organizations that gave out food over the weekend.
On Tuesday, the Archdiocese of Washington and Catholic Charities will distribute 800 boxes of groceries and family meals in the west parking lot of the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Northeast.
In two previous events in Prince George's County, their volunteers gave out 1,400 boxes of groceries and 1,400 ready-to-eat family meals.

By Associated Press Undefined LONDON (AP) — Ireland's Supreme Court has ruled that bread sold by the fast food chain Subway contains so much sugar that it cannot be legally defined as bread. The ruling came in a tax dispute brought by Bookfinders Ltd., an Irish Subway franchisee, which argued that some of its takeaway products - including teas, coffees and heated sandwiches - were not liable for value-added tax. A panel of judges rejected the appeal Tuesday, ruling that the bread sold by Subway contains too much sugar to be categorized as a 'staple food,' which is not taxed. […]
