Institute of People Management Malawi (IPMM) President Frank Sabola has emphasised the importance of workforce protection, describing employees as “the backbone of every organisation”.
Speaking in Blantyre at a cocktail event organised to thank supporters of the 2024 IPMM Annual Conference, Sabola highlighted the strategic value of human resource management.
Furthermore, Sabola stressed the importance of organisational compliance with labour laws and ethical human resource (HR) practices, noting that integrity in workplace management was key to employee welfare and sustainable growth.
“Protecting and nurturing the human resource is not only a legal obligation but also a critical factor in building competitive and resilient organisations.
“Organisations must lead by example by adhering to labour laws and treating employees fairly. Human resource management must ensure that the welfare of employees is prioritised at all times.
‘IPMM is commitment to championing ethical labour practices and professional development in Malawi’s workforce,” Sabola said.
He went on to say the Institute was ready to support the Ministry of Labour’s enforcement actions, including closure of companies suspected of violating workers’ rights.
“We, as an institute, are here to assist organisations by training them to operate under principles that safeguard the rights of their workforce,” he said.
Medical Aid Society of Malawi Chief Human Resource Manager and Administration Officer Linda Mapemba said the event was critical in fostering industry discussions.
She said such fora were essential for developing workforce management strategies and addressing emerging labour market issues.
“We believe that a well-managed workforce is key to organisational success and national development,” Mapemba said.
The gathering brought together HR professionals and stakeholders.
