Jesse Williams' Speech (BET Awards 2016)

The president also stressed the importance of keeping the economy open after months of stifling movement restrictions.

He urged citizens not to drop their guard and continue adhering to the health rules, such as wearing face masks and respecting curfew times.

South Africa has recorded just over 800,000 coronavirus infections - more than a third of the cases reported across the African continent - and over 20,000 deaths.

AS several countries ease into relaxing the strict measures taken to contain the dreaded novel coronavirus outbreak, top officials of the World Health Organization (WHO) are urging extreme caution, warning that the volatility of the virus could result in a second peak, long before a second wave, causing further devastation.

“We congratulate countries who have managed to contain and suppress the disease transmission; when we speak about a second wave classically what we often mean is that there will be a first wave and the disease by itself effectively goes to a very low level and then it curves a number of months later.

We cannot make assumptions that just because the disease is on the way down now it's gonna keep going down and then we are going to get a number of months to get ready for a second wave,” the WHO's emergencies chief Dr Michael Ryan told a press briefing in Geneva, Switzerland, yesterday.

We got a second peak, not necessarily a second wave, and therefore I think right now countries in Europe, countries in North America, many other countries around the world and South East Asia have to continue to put in place the public health and social measures, the surveillance measures, the testing measures and a comprehensive strategy to ensure that we continue on a downward trajectory and that we don't have an immediate second peak,” he said.

In the meantime, WHO Head Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said stringency in social and public health measures remain paramount if countries are to overtake the virus and remain in the lead.

Alzheimer’s disease (the most common type of dementia) is the 6th leading cause of death among White people, but the 4th leading cause of death for Black people like me.

Dementia is called a “silent epidemic” among Black people because many of us refuse to acknowledge or discuss this horrific disease.

One major reason Black people suffer disproportionately from Alzheimer’s is we are underrepresented in dementia research, in part because many of us are unwilling to donate our brains to research or participate in brain studies due to distrust of the medical system.

Another reason is Black people suffer disproportionately from diseases linked to a higher risk of dementia, including high blood pressure and type 2 diabetes.

It is also important to discuss important life challenges caused by dementia of any sort earlier in the disease process so you can address important end-of-life care decisions and family business.

The Opposition Leader is calling on government to engage all stakeholders and the opposition UNC to form a united front to fight Covid19.

In a release, she said 196 families and counting have lost loved ones because of abject mismanagement and the failure of the Keith Rowley government.

She said vaccination is the only way out of the pandemic, but the government had failed to act swiftly to procure vaccines.

'The Government failed to request a gift of vaccines from the Indian Government as other nations in the Caribbean did. Rowley did so only after being pressured. His claim of waiting for WHO to approve AstraZeneca vaccines makes no sense, as we gladly accepted a donation of 2,000 vaccines from Barbados. The Rowley government further failed to swiftly purchase vaccines from Pfizer earlier this year when an offer of 351,000 vaccines was put on the table for US$8.4 million. Government went cap in hand to the private sector and when Ansa McAl offered to foot the bill and pay for the entire Pfizer batch in exchange for a tax concession - the government refused. It is baffling that Rowley is now saying Pfizer vaccines were not available for purchase.

\"Did the Government refuse to buy vaccines for the population because it was waiting for 100,000 vaccines from China? Our citizens would not be dying today and our hospitals would not be running out of space had Government put the people first and bought the vaccines. Over a year into the pandemic the Prime Minister is now looking to gift the people banana, sweet potatoes, dasheen and squash when action should have been taken early to procure vaccines.'

Referring to remarks made during the Prime Minister's media conference on Friday, Kamla Persad-Bissessar said that the Prime Minister kept using the false narrative that small nations are unable to obtain vaccines.

'That is a lie. Barbados, with a population of 287,000, have given 75,300 jabs to its population to date. The Prime Minister also lied when he said vaccines are not available for purchase and the Government had a \"cheque in hand\" to make purchases. El Salvador with just over six million people inked a contract to purchase 4.4 million vaccines for its people. Just this Wednesday, Peru's Prime Minister announced plans to get 12 million additional vaccines from Pfizer. Prime Minister Rowley said he didn't want to beg for vaccines, and it is clear now that he was simply waiting for donations to be thrown our way as our people become casualties.'

She said while the UNC is grateful for vaccines gifted to TT, the reality is the government failed to be proactive in the mission to vaccinate.

'Accusing the population of being irresponsible is deflecting blame from poor leadership. \r\n\n\"Did the Government refuse to buy vaccines for the population because it was waiting for 100,000 vaccines from China? Our citizens would not be dying today and our hospitals would not be running out of space had Government put the people first and bought the vaccines. Over a year into the pandemic the Prime Minister is now looking to gift the people banana, sweet potatoes, dasheen and squash when action should have been taken early to procure vaccines.'\r\n\nReferring to remarks made during the Prime Minister's media conference on Friday, Kamla Persad-Bissessar said that the Prime Minister kept using the false narrative that small nations are unable to obtain vaccines. \r\n\n'That is a lie. Prime Minister Rowley said he didn't want to beg for vaccines, and it is clear now that he was simply waiting for donations to be thrown our way as our people become casualties.'\r\n\nShe said while the UNC is grateful for vaccines gifted to TT, the reality is the government failed to be proactive in the mission to vaccinate.\r\n\n 'Accusing the population of being irresponsible is deflecting blame from poor leadership. By JOSEPH WILSON and JAMEY KEATEN, Associated Press

GENEVA (AP) — The World Health Organization on Sunday reported the largest single-day increase in coronavirus cases by its count, at more than 183,000 new cases in the latest 24 hours.

At a campaign rally in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Trump said Saturday the U.S. has tested 25 million people, but the “bad part” is that it found more cases.

The number of confirmed virus cases is still growing rapidly not only in the U.S. but in Brazil, South Africa and other countries, especially in Latin America.

South Africa reported a one-day high of almost 5,000 new cases on Saturday and 46 deaths.

In Asia, China and South Korea reported new coronavirus cases Sunday in outbreaks that threatened to set back their recoveries.

The results of two autopsies ruled George Floyd’s death a homicide, but their findings contradicted each other in key aspects.

Floyd died on May 25 after former Minneapolis Police officer Derek Chauvin pressed a knee into his neck for more than eight minutes.

The county report did not mention asphyxiation, but did, in contrast to the independent report, cite underlying conditions as contributing to Floyd’s death, including “arteriosclerotic and hypertensive heart disease; fentanyl intoxication; [and] recent methamphetamine use.”

Disputing the county’s findings, Floyd family attorney Ben Crump said, “The ambulance was his hearse,” during Monday’s news conference.

In another development, by Tuesday Crump said he has learned from officials that the three other cops fired in connection with Floyd’s death are set be charged.

9. EPMD - Business As Usual

Business as usual? EPMDs third entry was anything but. The classic soul production that blessed their first two had evolved into frenetic blasts of funk, the rhymes had grown increasingly confrontational.

8. Brand Nubian - One for All

On their debut album, Grand Puba, Sadat X, Lord Jamar, and DJ Alamo brought political commentary and spirituality to the forefront, excelling with sensible tunes like Slow Down and Wake Up.

7. Gang Starr - Step in the Arena

Virtually fresh on the scene, Guru and DJ Premier quickly stood out from their peers by meshing thoughtful lyrics with snazzy, sample-heavy tracks.

6. LL Cool J - Mama Said Knock You Out

After dropping two mediocre albums back-to-back, Cool J decided to heed his grandmothers instruction to knock his critics straight to the curb.

5. Kool G Rap & DJ Polo - Wanted: Dead or Alive

G Rap diversified his rhymes to include a much-needed discussion on racial divisiveness and personal responsibility.

4. A Tribe Called Quest - Peoples Instinctive Travels and the Paths of Rhythm

Through their honest and introspective rhymes, Tribe appealed to Americas urban youth on their debut album.

3. Eric B. & Rakim - Let the Rhythm Hit Em

These two made plenty of classics together, but none ever matched the intricately stitched expressionism on Let The Rhythm Hit Em.

2. Ice Cube - AmeriKKKas Most Wanted

Following a bitter split from N.W.A., Ice Cube filled his debut album with dark stories of manic frustration.

1. Public Enemy - Fear of a Black Planet

That Fear of a Black Planet was not PEs best work but still managed to eclipse 99% of everything out at the time is a testament to the groups impact on 90s hip-hop. Dark, incendiary, and inevitably brutal, Fear gave yield to classics like 911 Is a Joke and Who Stole the Soul.

9. Del tha Funky Homosapien - I Wish My Brother George Was Here

While his cousin Ice Cube was busy stirring up the gangsta rap scene, Del was laying the foundation for what would become a healthy alternative-hip-hop
