As they waited patiently for hours after sunset to cast their ballots in an election primary on Tuesday (June 9), black voters in South Fulton County, Georgia were forced by police to leave their polling station.
Nikema Williams (a Georgia State Senator and chair of the state’s Democratic Party) had already cast her ballot at the Christian City polling station early Tuesday, Law & Crime reported.
“Five hours and 37 minutes after polls should’ve closed, the last voter cast a ballot in Georgia and the police were called on us.
Williams had also spent the day posting Facebook Live videos, which showed the long lines at polling places during Tuesday’s election primary.
“Tonight when I’d much rather be home celebrating my victory with my family, I’m out doing voter comfort because people are still in line in #Georgia voting after midnight,” Williams also wrote in a social media message.
