McDonald’ssaidMondaythatithasstartedtheprocessofsellingitsRussianbusiness,whichincludes850restaurantsthatemploy62,000people,makingitthelatestmajorWesterncorporationtoexitRussiasinceitinvadedUkraineinFebruary. Thefastfoodgiantpointedtothehumanitariancrisiscausedbythewar,sayingholdingontoitsbusinessinRussia“isnolongertenable,norisitconsistentwithMcDonald’svalues.” TheChicago-basedcompanyannouncedinearlyMarchthatitwastemporarilyclosingitsstoresinRussiabutwouldcontinuetopayemployees.OnMonday,itsaiditwouldseektohaveaRussianbuyerhirethoseworkersandpaythemuntilthesalecloses.Itdidnotidentifyaprospectivebuyer.
