Limbikani Mzava’s future uncertain at South Africa club

Mist surrounds the future of Flames former captain Limbikani Mzava at Betway Premiership side Magesi FC in South Africa.

South African media reported Wednesday that the Betway Premiership debutants had released seven players including Mzava, Masegela Tholang and Bongani Mpandle.

“Experienced Malawian defender Limbikani Mzava and Kaizer Chiefs former winger Kgaogelo Sekgota are among seven players to leave,” reported Far Post Wednesday.

The development comes seven months after the Mzava signed for the club.

But following the departure of coach Clinton Larsen, Mzava’s future has been uncertain at the club.

Mzava was not readily available for his comment yesterday.

Larsen’s exit came after he helped the team to a historic Carling Knockout Cup victory, where they defeated Mamelodi

Sundowns 2-1 in the final.

His assistant, Zothwane, briefly worked alongside new coach Owen Da Gama before making a surprise exit.

Magesi’s fairy-tale run in the Carling Knockout Cup has been in stark contrast to their dismal performance in the Betway Premiership in their debut season.

Magesi are languishing at the bottom of the log table with just one win in 12 matches.

In 12 matches, Magesi have only scored four goals while conceding 13.

The release of some key players has torched debate considering their struggles on the pitch this season.

Mzava signed for Magesi in July last year after spending two seasons without playing active football.

Apart from Mzava, Frank Gabadihno Mhango is the other Malawian in the Betway Premiership.
