The Malawi Law Society (MLS) has suspended renowned lawyer Gift Nankhuni of G. Nankhuni and Partners for fraudulent and improper conduct in the discharging of his duties.
In a statement, MLS says his conduct brought the law profession into disrepute.
It says it has since suspended Nankhuni for six months and ordered him to pay fines.
MLS Honorary Secretary Gabriel Chembezi says, in the statement, that Nankhuni will have to pay about K477, 895,833.33 to complainants and also pay K500,000 to MLS as the cost of disciplinary proceedings.
Chembezi asked for a written request when we asked him for a full report to appreciate the offences.
Nankhuni, who is also eyeing a parliamentary seat in Lilongwe, refused to comment on the matter.
