After a six-year break, musician DNA has resurfaced with his third album titled Che Kaliwo.
The artist, real name Daniel Kaliwo, has named the album Che Kaliwo in honour of his late mother, who, he says, was a dedicated supporter of his music.
“Kaliwo is my surname and I felt it was only right to name the album Che Kaliwo as a tribute to my late mum. She was my biggest fan and always believed that I was destined for greatness in music,” DNA said.
The artist, who came to the limelight in 2015 with the track ‘Mukandipepesele’, describes the album as a turning point in his musical journey, with a distinct focus on the theme of love.
“I have explored the different ways love shapes people’s lives in the album, as we all experience and navigate love differently. “Some people embrace love positively while others mistake infatuation for true love. Relationships and marriages have evolved beyond simple affection, which is why I felt compelled to create this album,” The Mzuzu-based artist said.
He said Che Kaliwo is not intended to fix relationships but, rather, to explore the various ways people define and perceive love.
With two albums to his acclaim namely Mizizi (2016) and Dziko la Amuna (2019), DNA said he has spent the other years focusing on singles. The 15-track album has songs such as ‘Fakitale’, ‘Mtera’, ‘Mdima’ and ‘Andilanda’.
In order to give it different tastes, the artist has worked with a number of producers and they include Macia, Mr Bishop, Chawa Beats, Enzo Beats, Ace Tee Beats and Taff Beats. As part of the album’s promotional campaign, DNA plans the Warm Heart of BACK—DNA Africa Tour.
